Fishing has mattered here since Roman times, when workshops on this shore made amphorae from the later reign of Augustus into the 2nd century AD.
The church of Saints Cosmas and Damian was built beside the sea in the 15th century, and the small church of Our Lady of Carmel dates from the 14th. The municipality also includes Valbandon and the coast of Peroj.
